Cat sitting

Meet Balmain's newest cat sitters - Emily and Tess! They take their job very seriously. Our friend Anna (who came to the Opera, whose teenage daughter Kate is our favorite babysitter, whose 1st grade daughter is in Emmy's class, who is frequently seen chatting at the playground with me) has gone home to New Zealand for a week and entrusted our girls with feeding her cat Jaggers. Anna is even paying our girls. "More than five dollars!" as Emily likes to say.

The girls tell everyone they meet all about it. They browse through stores thinking about how to spend their cash when they get it. Emily in particular really loves cats. She can be a little too boisterous with them at first and I've explained how to stay calm and quiet and let the cat approach her. We've also talked a lot about letting cats go when they get squirmy.

Some days we barely get a glimpse of our charge. Other days, like yesterday, Emily actually got to pick Jaggers up. It made her whole day.

Emily's come a long way from when she first cat sat for Jasper and tried to pick him up like this.

Full disclosure: she was 17 months old, he was incredibly tolerant, and I definitely intervened after I took the photo.
