On Saturday we went to a birthday party for one of Tessie's classmates. Nearly all the girls in her class were there and Emily joined as well. I enjoy seeing them relax and play together outside of school.
The party celebrated all thing girly. They painted fingernails and toe nails. Here's sweet Millie clearly enjoying turning five.
We had clear skies and warm temperatures - great for playing games like stuck in the mud and musical chairs. I love seeing the Anzac bridge and the city skyline for context.
They also played pass the parcel. I gather this is pretty standard for Australian and British birthdays. There are many ways to play but this time they did it by wrapping a present in many layers of paper. The kids sit in a circle and pass the parcel around. When the music stops whoever is holding it takes off a layer of paper and then sends it along. Stacey hid little chocolates in each layer to the kids' delight. They also timed it carefully so everyone got a chance to unwrap. The last one gets the present inside.
The girls now have a ton of ideas of how to celebrate Tess's birthday and Emily's half birthday. I'm not sure I can compete with this but I guess we'll come up with something.
Pass the present was also a birthday party standard for Arlington in the 80s. We played it exactly as you describe, but I don't think any parents thought of the addition of chocolate --that's impressive!
