Today I celebrated my birthday in the summer for the first time. I had grand plans for a day out at the beach but the temperatures soared to near record highs today so we stuck close to home and made good use of the pool. Emily treated me to a birthday fruit plate for breakfast. I love having fresh peaches in January!
Tess helped me bake a cake. She loves to help cook although she spends about half the time begging to lick the spoon. We enjoyed take out pizza from the amazing restaurant across the street. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler so perhaps we'll make it out to the beach after all.
These days I'm trying to balance entertaining trips out with a good dose of every day routine. The girls are both still struggling. Most of the time they do fine but when they get tired or hungry they regress back two years or so with Tess asking to be carried and putting things in her mouth, and Emily returning to her epic tantrums. We have yet to go a day without protracted crying from one or the other but then we have only been here a week.
The tiny sprinkles on my cake are a popular Aussie treat called 100s and 1000s. |
Yeah, not kidding around about the heat. |
