We made it! The journey to get here was long and at times quite rough. The girls did remarkably well on the flights but three of the four of us ended up getting sick with a stomach bug that I'm already working hard to forget. We spent our first day here just recovering and settling in. We have two days at a serviced apartment outside of the city before we can move into our long term rental.
Today we took our first outing into the city of Sydney. The girls really wanted to see the Opera House so we decided to start there. We rode the ferry in and then walked along the edge of the harbor. The sight of the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House is really so iconic. It felt great to be tourists for the day but in a casual way where we know we have time to come back or try parts of it on a different day.
Jet lag hasn't been a big concern so far but I can tell the girls are emotionally on edge from all the transitions. Tess is having the hardest time. She could be walking along grinning one minute and then burst into tears later and declare that she hates it here. We're trying to keep our schedule as normal as possible and include family meals, bath time, reading in bed and lots of other reminders of home. I think it will help a lot for us to be in our apartment where we can start unpacking and settling in.
Our first ferry ride. It was a great way to get a first glimpse of the city. |

I don't know if you posted about this elsewhere, but why did you move?
ReplyDeleteOh, good question. Brian took a work assignment here. He does sales strategy for the Asia/Pacific region and this is a chance for him to focus specifically on the Australia piece of the business. We feel really lucky to have work help make this a reality since I don't think we could've pulled this all off on our own.
