The bike and scooter have made a HUGE difference in our mobility these days. The girls love to go fast and we cover a lot of ground. At the same time, the bike and scooter are light enough to carry up and down the occasional stairs or pick up to bring on the bus or the ferry - both of which we rode today. Today we also added our new baskets. Thank you Aunt Sarah and Uncle Tom! This allowed the girls to carry along their own little menagerie (a bear, a dog, a lobster, Pete the Cat, two other cats and three koalas). That's just how we roll!
Today we ventured into Darling Harbour to see the Ginormous Duck (see Emily's letter to her Kindie class). The Rubber Duck arrived in Sydney just after we did. The Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman designed it as an installation for the Sydney Festival - a month long series of events leading up to Australia Day (Jan 26th). I hear Australia Day is similar to 4th of July for us but also akin to Labor Day in that it marks the end of summer and the return to school (and work).
The Rubber Duck holds a special significance for us because we used to refer to Emily as Ducky and when Brian first started traveling as a dad he began to take a rubber duck with him to photograph wherever he went. Our little travel ducky has been all over the world by now. We can't wait to come back to Darling Harbour with Daddy and travel ducky in tow.

What a wonderful giant Ducky! Great photos! And I love the 'travel ducky' tradition! We do the same with Lego Star Wars minifigures.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the city in the background of your pictures -- this must feel so different for you guys!
ReplyDeleteGreat Wall of China, huh... that's some day trip.
ReplyDeleteSeeing Pete rolling in the basket reminded me - we got a Pete the Cat book for Christmas after seeing it at your place (4 Groovy Buttons) and June especially loves it. We're really trying to play up the "do we cry? goodness no!" thing, but for some reason our 2.5 year olds seem limited in their ability to imitate Pete's stoic response to things coming and things going. Oh well.
