Movers and mail

Emily wrote to two friends from Kindergarten - including her learning partner Bryan. Aw.
Tess drew a picture for a preschool friend.

This morning we stayed home to await the movers. The girls and I filled the time by writing a few letters to friends back home. Emily and Tess still talk about their friends a lot. I know they miss them a ton. I'm glad they're old enough to write letters and draw pictures. I think it'd be pretty cute if we could get some correspondence going back and forth. I have them dictate emails to me sometimes but I think the actual writing and sending of real letters is a lot of fun - and good fine motor practice. We even made a trip to the post office to buy stamps and put our envelopes in the big red bin.

In other big news: our stuff arrived today! This is the shipment we put together before Christmas. The shippers originally estimated that we'd have it just a few days after we arrived (vs. two weeks in) so it contained a lot of our most basic stuff including almost all of our summer wardrobe. We've each been living off of a few days worth of clothes for the last two weeks so it was exciting to see it all again.

The girls were thrilled to have more toys arrive. I really think it helps things feel like home. I'm thrilled to have my SPF swim shirt, my good sun hat, and our beach towels. Our scooter and bikes also came in this shipment. I think those will come in handy since the girls are already tiring of the walk into town. I'm still not sure how those will help for the super steep sections but even if it's just a mental boost, I'll take it.

  1. Thanks, Margie! I let the girls organize their room and they got really into making labels for everything.

  2. I agree--happy unpacking! What a great relief it must be to have your STUFF so that you don't feel like you are just camping in that cute, bright, little apartment!

Some questions(which can be addressed slowly, in blog posts, as you are able):

I am curious about any new food items that you and your family have discovered and/or integrated into your diet.

Have you guys been affected by the bushfires that we are hearing about?

I liked the little quiz you posted with the Aussie words--- have you found yourselves adopting the lingo?

    When does school start?

Send me your new mailing address via email -- I know that my boys would be glad to write/draw some cheerful things for the girls!

  3. First of all, I can tell you have girls because your markers all have matching caps and are beautifully organized in their little carousel. Ours are complete chaos in a much-abused Ziploc container!

You are doing an amazing job of staying positive...this must be exhausting for you. I am enjoying your explorations vicariously but aching for you with the regressions and sadness from your kiddos. My younger two get ferociously homesick after just a day or so away (at their grandparents' no less), so I can well imagine how hard this is for all of you. I'm crossing my fingers that you will meet more kids (and their parents) and start to get used to Sydney.

Keep up the posting - you have a loyal reader in Canada ;-)
